The Joint Lab for Polymers Jena-Bayreuth combines two international leading polymer science locations and universities in research and education. This unique combination connects more than 50 research groups and more than 500 PhD researchers to make technologies usable across locations, to bundle expertise, to improve education in polymer science and to solve today’s challenges. We cover the entire polymer research, from catalysis, synthesis, characterization, processing, upscaling to application-oriented and industrial-relevant solutions using state-of-the-art digital technologies such as artificial intelligence or robot-based and automated processes.

The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) announced on the 18.05.2018 that it will fund the Joint Collaborative Research Center / Transregio (CRC / TRR) 234 "CataLight" over the next four years. The partners, including the University of Vienna, the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz and the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technologies e. V. in Jena, approx. ten million euros. The cross-regional research network intends to use the resources to investigate the basic functionality of innovative photocatalytically active materials.
Our research group will contribute in Project A3 that will focus on the synthesis of rylene photosensitizers for photocatalytic water splitting.

On 07.11.2017, Kalina took part of the First Innovative Areas Lecture SeriesExternal link under the support of Smt. Prem Lata and Prof. D. V. S. Jain Research foundation, held at Panjab University, Chandigarh, India. The event was inaugurated by Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University in the Department of Chemistry.

His groups is working on the self-assembling organic networks using short peptides and amino acids and the development of novel strategies for sensing of heavy metal ions and pesticides using peptides and aptamers. Our joined paper on the detection of malathion using quantum dots polymer based fluorescence aptasensor has been published recently in Biosensors and Bioelectronics.External link
